"Languid has just released their debut CD, 55 Clicks, and it's full of the artfully rendered compositions which embody the graceful, smooth flow their name conjures and which the band naturally strives for.

"The unity evident in Languid’s music is rather remarkable. Song after song reveals an amazing lock-step synchronicity between the bass, guitar and percussion, with Rebecca Ryan’s distinctive voice adding the flavorful coating. Ryan does something that few lead singers tend to do -- she blends in. She’s a mature, emotive singer, but one who curiously projects no ego and doesn’t serve up lyrics that draw attention to themselves. Like the other elements of Languid’s musical tea, Ryan’s voice is a subtle spice that is simply one flavor in a healthy brew."

Languid Bio

Languid was formed in March 1997 as the outcome of instrumental jam sessions.  The group began as Fixture, a 3-piece combo with guitar, bass and conga drums.  Vocals and a modified jazz drum kit were soon added to complete the Languid sound.

The name Languid derives from the mellow, low rock sound the band creates. Languid's unique sound has been described by such terms as "jazz-influenced pop," "sweet and low-down grooves," and "lo-fi Morphine-esque funk."

Languid has appeared at many St. Louis venues, including: Mississippi Nights, The Duck Room at Blueberry Hill, Off Broadway, The Side Door, The Firehouse, Cicero's, the Hi-Pointe, Elsher's, C.J Mugg's, Kennealy's, the St. Louis Brewery and Tap Room, the Way Out Club, and the Great Grizzly Bear, as well as Bar Next Door in Springfield, MO, and numerous festivals and benefits all across Missouri.

Languid is:

Josh Kohn – Guitar
Stephen Lindsley – Bass
Doug McIntosh - Drums
Rebecca Ryan - Vocals
Peter von zur Muehlen – Percussion

Languid in the media:

With mood-core outfit Languid, Rebecca Ryan has found just the right home for her allusive songwriting and eerie singing. Her songs take place in a no-woman's land between desperation and revelation, preserving just enough clarity within her fragile images. She's got the vocal chops to sing jazz, and her unpredictable phrasing swims and sways around her bandmates' low-fi Morphine-esque funk.

Slammie Awards 2001

Languid creates a seductive current of sound with hypnotizing grooves and luscious melodies. But don't expect a catnap listen. The band's sporadic bursts of energy will grab hold of a relaxed body.

Languid
Superb Talent, Awesome Groove

Completely kick ass. They caught my attention when I was just casually going through the bands listed on the website. The thing that stood out most was the complex percussion and the vocals. After listening to "Tracks" I soon knew why Rebecca Ryan was nominated for Best Singer/Song Writer. Languid is currently in production of the follow up album to 55 Clicks. 55 Clicks is one CD I won't mind being in my CD collection. From groovy rock to a pleasant vibe with some deep meaningful lyrics and an awesome percussion track for each song, this band is sure to please any music fan.
