Playback - St. Louis, MO March 2003 Photogrammar In a garret better suited for house parties or raves opened an eloquent exhibit of 40 photographic voices of St. Louis. Titled Photogrammar, the exhibit ran from February 7 through 23 at the Art Coop. The cosmopolitan potential of this unique rustic gallery is muted by its rough and unclean edges. Pasted to various points of its raw wood floor and vertical space were little monologues begging the observer to use but not abuse the small yellow sheets named Daniel. The faint cosmopolitan flair of this rambling gallery was fanned by the sleek, blended foreign music of professional DJs and unusual hors doeuvres. ... Stephen Lindsley displays an appealing grasp of contrast in Yellow Steps. Thin yellow and white steps climb in a diagonal curve around a fat, gray silo. The vertical gray lines of the silo compliment the stark, nearly horizontal steps. |
